Today I wanted to share that I finally hit 7 months into my dreadlock journey! π₯³π I officially started August 2nd 2025. I went to the braid shop and had comb coils installed. At that point I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go with my dreadlock journey. I didn’t know if I wanted neat cultivated locs in which my roots are twisted every 2-3 months, or any other route. By month 3 and two diy retwists at home I soon realized I wanted to freeform my dreadlocks. I always admired the freeform look of dreadlocks more than the more very neat look. To me the freeform locs are more freedom and I won’t have to twist my hair at all to maintain it just wash it and go.

Don’t get me wrong I think all forms of dreadlocks are beautiful β€οΈπ but I wanted freeforms to suit my current lifestyle and I also didn’t want to have to do my hair so often (which is why I wanted dreads in the first place) my hair locked pretty quickly I’ll say around month 3 my hair had already started to form and look like dreads. In the 7 months of being on this hair journey I’ve learned patience and to not (or try not to) compare my journey to someone else. I’m looking forward to hitting the 1 year mark and looking into the future with my dreadlocks.

I also read a how to book by Adette Wellington on How To Grow Amazing Dreadlocks I’ll leave a link to my book review podcast sharing my thoughts on the book, but I learned a lot from her book as well.
