#bookreview By Hook Or By Book By Misty Simon @parternsincrimetours

Synopsis

Roxy Gleason, an innkeeper by trade and a bibliomancer by birth, has lived in the same small town on the Susquehanna River in Central Pennsylvania for her entire life. Tradition is strong here. Roxy understands the rules and is willing to play by them most of the time. She runs the Charmed Inn, which has been in her family for decades.

The inn is all set to host a writers’ professional business weekend that’s been planned down to the very last hand-folded napkin, and Roxy is ready for the influx of creatives. She knows she’ll have a lot of different and sometimes unusual personalities to deal with, but this is a yearly function, so she’s not expecting anything to go awry.

Her expectations are completely tanked when she finds a dead body on her daily walk by the river’s shore. Owen Schultz had checked in for the conference a few hours ago, and she’d last seen him having tea with her aunt in the dining room.

How did he get down here on the ferry, and who killed him?

Review/ My thoughts

By Hook or by Book is a cozy paranormal story about Roxy who runs her family bed and breakfast. Roxys inn is having a Writers event, and she ia running around trying to get things together. In the midst of getting ready for the event one of her guest is found dead near the river.
Roxy takes what she leanred from books to try to solve the mystery of who killed this guest and why? Why now during this writers event?

Roxy is a big reader , and i liked that about her. She does thisĀ  thing where she can flip a page and find the answer to what she needs to be on the page.Ā

I like the paranormal aspect of the story. If you like cozy mystery with touch of paranormal i think youll like this story.

#bookreview Peppermint Cookie Murder By Trixie Silvertale

Synopsis

Cindy Claus is excited to open her own bakery. She’s determined to pursue her passion and have her holiday treats prove she’s more than a Yuletide heir. But before she can whisk up a success, her roommate is murdered and Cindy is the prime suspect.

With finding the real killer the only way to beat the rap, Cindy relies on the kindness of strangers and her father’s trusted arctic fox. But without a recipe for success in the unfamiliar human world, grilling the wrong suspects could put her behind bars…

Can Cindy sift out the clues before she’s done and dusted?

Review/thoughts

This was a nice, cozy mystery about a half elf named Cindy whose dad just so happens to be Santa Claus. Cindy wants to live in the human world away from the North Pole for a while and truly be on her own without her dad hoovering over her. Her biggest goal while living in the human world is to run her her bakery.

Its not long before cindy and her magical white Fox that is passing as a dog get caught up in a murder mystery that she is trying to clear her name from. Cindy while still trying to understand the human world still wants to find out the true killer in Bettys murder.

This was a fast paced Christmasy cozy mystery. I do like the references to the cookies and how much Cindy likes baking. Arikoka the white fox i enjoyed because he actually talks and he passed very easily as a dog and really noone in town noticed. I do plan to read more from the author as well as finish the series.

Review/ thoughts

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. This is about a woman named Iowa, she works at a bowling alley / restaurant. She always finds herself in the oddest situations where he boss Wenston has to be there to save her. Her job was hosting a dinner for a popular MLM called YogaYou where they are known for selling werid yoga pants with wild patterns on them. The CEO dies while at the dinner, and Iowa feels it’s her job to find out what really happened to her. This overall was a fast paced cozy I liked that the author incorporated an MLM which more people now adays a made aware that those companies are very Shady. Iowa owns a cat named Mr SnootyPants which I thought was cute. I wanted to see more of the cat though. overall this was just what I need to end my reading slump, if you want to start reading cozy mysteries and don’t know where to start this is a good place to start.

#bookreview Pralines and Creamed By Elizabeth Maria Naranjo #bookblitz @womenonwriting

Synopsis

It’s the spooky season in Pinewood, Arizona, and when Genevieve Winterland isn’t creating killer new recipes for Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Parlour, she’s helping BFF Brandon Summers prepare for the party of the year. Brandon’s parents own Hidden Treasures Bookstore, where famed horror writer Jack Kelley is launching his latest novel on Halloween night.

Brandon’s dad isn’t thrilled that the arrogant Kelley, who was once sweet on Mrs. Summers, has chosen their store for his big event. Still, there’s no denying the author draws a huge crowd. Which makes it hard to narrow down a suspect list when Kelley drops dead onstage—the victim of a shocking murder straight out of his own book.

Fresh off Pinewood’s last cold case, Genevieve is happy to let the police handle this one. But when frosty Detective Christie zeroes in on Brandon’s dad as her prime suspect, Genevieve decides to take matters into her own hands. Can she get the scoop and solve the mystery haunting her hometown?

Review

Just like the first book in the series I enjoyed reading this installment. I like how persistent Genevieve is when is comes to wanting to solve the case. In the second book a local horror author drops dead at his own book signing. Genevieve is determined to understand why and who may have done it. It was surprising to know who the real person was behind the murder. I still like when the book is set in the ice cream shop and whenever the puppy Butterscotch is talked about. It’s a fast paced cozy mystery that I love being back into. I would recommend this book to people who like or who just starting out reading cozy mysteries like myself.

I’ll like to think the author and women on writing for allowing me to read and share my honest review.

#bookreview Murder By Milkshake By Elizabeth Maria Naranjo #bookblitz @womenonwriting

Review:
Murder by Milkshake is a fast-paced, cozy mystery that follows high schooler Genevieve while she is in charge of her familys ice cream shop. A lot of werid things are  going on in her small town, such as her teachers showed up missing and dead. So Genevieve takes it upon herself to know what happened and why.

This was my  first time reading a cozy mystery. I always wanted to start reading them. I’m glad it was Murder by Milkshake. I do like that the ice shop was incorporated into the story a lot. I could actually see the setting and characters there having their conversations discussing who could have done it.

I also like the dog Butterscotch. Not only is it a cute name, Butterscotch is a cute dog in the story.

I now want to continue on in this series because it’s fun, fast-paced, and fits right into the fall time.

I want to thank the author and women on writing for allowing me to read and give an honest review.

ā€œHauntings and Starsā€: A Character Interview with a Magical Dog
Today we’re interviewing William, one of the lead characters in Beauty and the Alchemist. William, would you introduce yourself?

W: I’ll say this once, so listen up. I’m an arcane familiar, which isn’t the same as just a talking dog. I’m magic. I know all kinds of things. This poofy black fur is a disguise–all the better to intimidate villains with.

Well, I have heard you described as a ā€œwolf dogā€ by the uninitiated, so that makes sense! Do you often run into villains?

W: I’ve seen all kinds. Though they’re usually smart enough not to pick a fight. I’ve been traveling with Red for a long time, and before that I traveled on my own a lot, too.

Could you tell us about Red, your current companion?

W: When I met Red, she was a traveling alchemist. You know, the sort who goes from town to town selling potions and little science-y things. She was alone at the time, and I could tell that she was the kind of person who attracts trouble. She’s smart, don’t get me wrong, but she needs someone to keep her from getting in over her head sometimes. And I wasn’t busy, and she didn’t try to do any experiments on me or steal my magic, so I thought, why not?

And that ā€œwhy notā€ has become the basis for a years-long friendship! How do you feel about Red’s decision to settle in Belville and open a shop?

W: Part of being a magical familiar is it gives you perspective on people. So I know something that Red doesn’t know: when she settled in Belville, she thought she was doing it for work–you know, ā€œwonderful natural resources for potionsā€ and ā€œgreat place to sell to tradersā€ and all those other things she says–but what she really wanted was a home.

Unfortunately, that home has been the scene of several mysteries and even murders, isn’t that so?

W: Yes, and one particularly suspicious bookseller, if you ask me. But nowhere is perfect. Listen, some people who won’t be named think of me as just a big loyal dog. In only one particular, they’re right: I’ll go wherever Red goes. It doesn’t matter to me where we settle down. What does matter to me is that Red finds what she needs to find (because she was getting a little strange and mopey being on the road all the time, let me tell you).

That sounds rather sweet of you, actually. Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

W: Look out for haunted books. But other than that, Belville isn’t so bad. It’s got a great view of the stars. And if you come into Red’s Alchemy and Potions, just don’t call me a ā€œdogā€ and we’ll be fine.

That wraps up our interview! To find out what William means about hauntings, stars, and home, check out Beauty and the Alchemist wherever you buy books.
