Finding The Time to Write:

As a new author and writer I find that the hardest thing for myself is finding the time to write. It sounds easy to just take out my laptop or notebook and write but I always feel it better to have a comfortable space and not interruptions to make writing time easier for myself. I am a mom of a special needs child and I just put most of my “me time” during the day while he’s at school or evenings when he is sleep or evening during the weekend afternoons.

Finding the time to write is so important because I find when I’m not writing or at least thinking about my writing projects I can start to have self doubt and that something no new writer needs. So I learned doing writing sprints (I find some pre recorded videos on YouTube that I can write along with or I can set my own timer)

I also made it a mission to write down on my phone which I find to be very easy, especially when I’m out and I have a new idea that I just can’t wait to put together. I have usye things like Word, Google docs, and Microsoft notes to do my brainstorming and note taking. I like using these programs because my work gets synced to my computer and I won’t worry about losing anything (no writer wants to write for hours and lose their work)

So my phone, when I’m home I have a notebook and my computer all near by for when I’m feeling creative. Because I feel my stories are forever changing I’m always adding and taking away from them all the time. I remember a few times I woke up in the middle of the night just to take notes on my dream that I thought I could use in my story so I wouldn’t forget it later.

Overall although finding time is important I also find not adding pressure on yourself because that takes away the fun and enjoyment from writing. I have to tell myself this is my life long career and I want to have fun with what I’m doing, no pressure no stress. Make writing fun maybe by playing some music, taking a 5-10 minute break in-between writing sprints, and also rewarding yourself like with coffee, or candy or just a drive to the mall later, it be something simple like a hot bath even. Make writing time fun and these tips I have to always remind myself with because it’s very easy to lose track.

Things to consider:

โ€ข music

โ€ข writing sprints

โ€ข group writing session (there are a lot of groups online people can sign up for free, or ask around your local library)

โ€ขreward yourself

โ€ข be kind to yourself

โ€ข no pressure, no stress remember to enjoy yourself
